Book Update

Insula Zero Update.  I’ve got today off because once a month I have to work a Saturday shift… so I get the Monday before that shift off, giving myself a long weekend.  So this coming weekend will be a one day weekend, which sucks… but it gives me today to kinda hunker down and do some writing.  I got up at 9am and wrote pretty much straight through for an hour and a half.  I don’t have the attention span to just keep going all day, so I’m taking a couple of minutes to update you guys on here and the other various sites I’ve got people following IZ on.

We’ve just passed 60’000 words, 60’950 to be precise.  I know I shouldn’t focus on things like that, but it’s minutae like that that I enjoy knowing.  I like stats and numbers like that.  I did some research to find out how many words a typical novel has, and it ranges from 20-30’000 for a young-adult novel, and then apparently 60’000 is about how long an average “shorter” novel is.  The baseline is anywhere between 55’000 and three times that much for most modern novels.  There are exceptions obviously, but this is where we’re at.

One of the reasons I’m keeping tabs on things like this are because a lot of companies have strict limits on page length and word count, and I just like knowing where we’re at in case compromises have to be made.  Since we’re going to be doing this thing independently, most likely, we probably won’t need to worry about that… but whatever.

Anyway, time to get back at it, I guess.  I’ll probably let you know once we pass 65’000 words.  If we ever hit 200’000 words we’ll be in Stephen King territory.  But for now I’m content to be in Dean Koonz range.  :P

See you soon,
