So yeah, Insula Zero is done. I’ll give you details about how to get it (eventually) as soon as all the kinks are worked out. Editing is such a pain in the ass, seriously. Anyhow, life got in the way, hence the long wait between updates… but we’re back into the swing of it now.
Rock and Goddamn Roll.

Quick video I made showing a ton of IZ concept ideas.
Coming soon indeed, folks.
See you soon.

September 3 - Update
248 pages. 72’517 words. 23 completed chapters.
While I might not hit my deadline, I won’t be far off. I just finished writing a chapter I was stuck on, there was a flashback with a character that I think I mentioned in the audio post I made last week, and yes, it took me a week to get through it, a little bit at a time. I wrote 4 pages or so today and I think that while it doesn’t really “mean” a lot in the big scheme of the whole novel, it adds a fair bit of depth and emotional heft to a certain character who might have been viewed as a hardass or something. Anyhow, steamrolling on.
Here’s another audio update for IZ and other projects JC and I have in the works. I’ll do another update tomorrow in an attempt to catch back up with this site, as it’s been a while since I banged out rapid updates in a row. If you’re unable to listen to the audio, let me know and I’ll transcribe the information into a blog for you. Any questions or anything at all, email me at chrispeckford@gmail.com or at insulazerostory@gmail.com and I’ll be more than happy to email back.
See you soon.

Had a productive day today, as far as Insula Zero is concerned. I wrote a 9-page chapter and we’re up to nearly 70’000 words now and are at page 234. I also did a bit of Photoshop stuff as well, so I figured I’d share one of the images I did with you here. I’ll update more over the weekend.
See you soon.

Deadline
JC has appointed a deadline for us to finish Insula Zero… it is one month from today. Of course, there are no repercussions if we don’t have it done by then, but still, I’ll do my best. Coincidentally, it is also one month until I fly to Newfoundland for Trevor’s wedding. Right now we’re sitting at 225 pages of Insula Zero goodness. We’ve stil got at least 3 chapters to go, but it’s coming along just fine, methinks. I plan on doing at least a couple hours of writing tomorrow after I get home from work, and at least an hour a day for the next week. That should get me really close, if not all the way there. It would be nice to come in way ahead of the deadline. Of course, there were times when I thought it would be done before 2010 even rang in, but such is life.
I’ll keep you posted, see you soon.

I made a few desktop wallpaper images today. This is the one I spent the longest time on, and it’s fitted to my screen, hence the screenshot to show you how it looks on my monitor. If you guys want a desktop pic of your own, let me know, JC and I are both cranking out different different ones left and right.
Insula Zero Origins
I found some mock journal entries on my computer which represent where Insula Zero started back in 2006. I decided to read them out and share them with you here. If you’re unable to listen to the audio and are interested in seeing what the very original story kinda looked like, let me know and I’ll post it in it’s entirety here.
There’s some bad language in here, so I figured I’d alert you here.
Enjoy guys, see you soon.

PS: The music I added to the background are all instrumentals by NIN.
Insula Zero iPhone and PSP Wallpapers
I whipped these up real quick for those of you who might happen to have an iPhone or PSP in need of some Insula Zero lovin’. Click each link to get an IZ Desktop that you can save and use on your device. I’m going to be making some variations and completely different images as wallpapers as well. If there’s any pictures or anything that you’d like to see as a wallpaper, let me know what device/resolution you need, and what you’d like to see in the picture, and I’ll see what I can do.
More audio stuff to come either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how exhausted I am. :P
Someone asked a question about the possibility that we could make some wallpaper designs for various devices; PC Destops, Smartphones, PSP’s, iPhones, iPads, etc. I just made this one into a wallpaper just to test it, and it’s on my desktop now. Here’s a screenshot of how my desktop looks. If anyone’s really interested in having some of these for various devices, let me know, and we’ll make a bunch of different ones.
Another sketch.
This is a really old sketch I did of Perry as a more of a comic character instead of the more realistic version that ultimately ended up in the book. I don’t even remember drawing this one, to be honest, but I figured I’d share it on here just to show to evolution of the character and the art.
See you soon,

For those of you who don’t listen to the audio things I post, here’s something to look at instead. Just trying to figure out some sort of stages of decomposition for baldy here. More drawings and ideas to come soon.
Another day, another audio post. I’ll be posting a couple of new zombie sketches as well later on tonight. This time on the audio I talked about options we have for getting the book into your hands in some way, shape or form. The long and short of it is this: it costs money, and any ideas you might have, or anyone you know within that industry, would be of great value to us. Please comment on this blog or send me a direct message through this site or at chrispeckford@gmail.com with any suggestions. Check back soon for some new sketches.
Perry asked me why I hadn’t done an audio segment for the site today… and while I had no intention of doing one EVERY day, I felt like making this one for the hell of it. In it I talk about some of the zombie movies and books that JC and I are fans of and why. I could easily talk about this stuff for hours, but 10 minutes seems to be about the limit for this site. Enjoy.
Any comments or questions, please fire away; especially if you have any ideas about some more podcasts for me to ramble on about.
See you soon,

And for the record, I sound like I talk funny because of the editing. I removed 4 minutes of “um’s” and long pauses, and I went a little willy-nilly with it, cutting it fast to get it done… so some of the audio sounds stilted. I promise I don’t have some sort of speech impediment. ;)
Do you intend to make a digital support pack for IZ? Like desktop wallpapers, or cell phone screensavers for example?

A lot of the sketches don’t really lend themselves to full-blown desktops, but I can definitely see some of the cover designs as screensavers for various mobile devices, sure. I actually had one on my PSP that I’d made ages ago. I hadn’t really thought of making a whole bunch of stuff for those various devices specifically, because the idea that someone would actually WANT them kinda blows me away. But I’m pretty sure JC and myself would be more than happy to toss some stuff like that out there.
